BoomBox is an open-source Arduino-compatible board that attaches to commercially available camera traps to emit custom sounds when the camera's passive infrared (PIR) motion sensor is triggered.
This video, provided by Dr. Meredith Palmer, highlights the features of the BoomBox. Her research focused on prey/predator response during her deployments in Grumeti Game Reserve, Tanzania, Gorgongosa National Park, Mozambique in 2019 and 2021.
Minimal hardware and software skills are required to use the BoomBox. Users can customize a number of features, including specifying the playback volume (manually and through software), the delay between trigger event and audio playback, and the order in which MP3s are played (sequentially or randomly).
BoomBox v0.6 is compatible with the following camera trap models
1 IP65 waterproof enclosure, 1 Boombox board, 2 speakers, USB programming dongle, and battery holder
